Piano Lessons for Adults
I have a small number of daytime spaces available on Thursdays and Fridays – ideal for adults, home-schooled students, retirees, shift workers, or anyone with a flexible schedule.
Lessons are available in person at my studio in Trentham, Upper Hutt, or online from anywhere.
About a third of my students are adults
Some have come to me as complete beginners. Others are returning to the piano after years away- often surprised to find how much their hands still remember. I also work with self-taught players who want to fill gaps in their reading or technique, and musicians who already play another instrument and want to add piano.
What to expect
We work on music you love – classical repertoire, chords, popular songs, theory or whatever brings you to the piano. I don’t push exams or performances; we set goals that make sense for you and work toward them at a pace that fits your life.
Adult students are welcome at studio events. These are always voluntary.
Being an Adult Student
If you’ve played before, it might take some time for note reading and coordination to return, but it’s a delightful journey. You’ll be surprised to find that many things you haven’t thought about for a long time are still there!
Learning as an adult comes with unique challenges, such as balancing family, time, and other commitments. I work closely with my students to ensure they get the most out of their lessons and enjoy the learning process.
For new students, I use method books, and there’s never any pressure to perform.
